Electric Gate Openers – Gate Opener – Gate Opener Blog
In a time when people are increasingly worried about their security, adding a gate at driveway entrances has become a popular improvement. Having a secure fence and locked gate can be a great comfort, particularly if the house lies in a dangerous or heavily trafficked neighborhood. In addition to its security benefits, adding a gate also contains animals, marks property lines and can make an aesthetic improvement to the home. All of this comes with a price, though, as gates not only restrict the access of burglars and pests, but also people that belong on your property. There are few things more frustrating than finishing a long commute, only to have to get out of the car, open a gate, drive through it, get out of the car again, close the gate and finally get back in the car and drive home. Electric gate openers provide an indispensable convenience, allowing a gate to be opened without ever leaving the car and eliminating almost all of those cumbersome steps.
When purchasing your new automatic gate operator there are several options to consider. The most obvious choice lies in selecting between an operator that opens the gate by sliding it to the side or swinging it outwards. Swing gates are generally preferred as they are aesthetically pleasing, safer and more reliable. However, they require a certain opening radius dependant on the length of the gate, causing them to be unfeasible where space or sloping hills restrict the motion. Sliding gates eliminate this issue as they retract rather than swing out, usually overlapping another part of the fence when open.
Electric gate openers are operated by a controller which sends a signal to the opening mechanism, causing it to activate. When it comes time to purchase a controller, it will become obvious that there is no dearth in available devices that accomplish this simple task. One can choose between wireless and wired keypads, keypads with intercoms, key operated controllers, and controllers operated by remotes or phones. Each of these features affects the convenience and price of the gate system and the final decision will likely be reliant on the homeowner’s budget and personal preference.
The addition of an electric gate opener can make a gate’s usefulness transparent and infinitely more convenient. The costs of installation are relatively low compared with the ease of use and peace of mind that they can provide.
